Is there any way to access the information on old style floppy discs with a modern computer?

Trying to clear up in a new office and found a bunch of old style floppy discs - presumably we'd need some kind of plug-in hardware to read them? How could it be done and would the information be accessible considering it will be in very very old versions of Word/Excel/etc?
